Severn Park, Bridgnorth to Arley

Bridgnorth to Arley via Hampton Loade

The final stretch of the Shropshire Severn features some of the most beautiful parts of river, with lots of wide open views and gorgeous wildlife. At Hampton Loade the old ferry has fallen into disrepair. The National Trust look after the pay and display car park.

Straddling both sides of the river the Severn Valley Country Park, under the care of Shropshire Council has an intriguing history. Mining and quarrying were very active here and some of the more interesting botanical finds are those on the spoil tips. The Park is linked to a halt on the steam propelled Severn Valley Railway, this restoration triumph runs from Bridgnorth to Kidderminster, following and crossing the Severn as she goes.

The final destination on the Severn Canoe Trail is Arley, just shy of the Worcestershire border this sleepy village is a beautiful way to finish any journey. The access is very easy and the footbridge makes for rather an idyllic place to get off and stow away another bag of river memories!
